Our Commitment to Sustainability Runs Deep
Today, we are part of the nearly 16,000 sugar makers in the U.S. who are preserving maple forests. How? We are helping to preserve this crucial habitat for distinct plants and animals that need large, intact tracts of forest to survive.
Committed to Sustainability for Generations
Sustainable farming is part of our family’s history. When you make something a priority for more than eight generations, it becomes a legacy. Since the mid-1800s, the Bascom family has been acting as responsible stewards of the forest, following a sustainable approach to agriculture, such as implementing a 10” minimum diameter requirement for trees tapped for sap collection. At Bascom, we have made sustainability a focus, a goal and a commitment.
Sustainable Practices: Focused on the Future
We’re also focused on bringing maple farming into the future by increasing efficiency, reducing our carbon footprint and doing all we can to make sure that small family farms — and the small-town economies that depend on them — thrive.
Today, we have the following sustainability practices in place:
· Use of reverse osmosis machines
· Use of natural air for refrigeration rooms
Sustainable Processes: The Path to the Future
Continuing to improve our sustainability processes, we are also:
· Installing solar systems that will cover all of our electrical needs
· Recovering waste heat from machinery and using it to heat our hot water
